Since the last thing I posted actually generated some interest, I thought I would offer up a tangent from it as a separate thread.
All right, here it is: If the Smithereens did a CD of nothing BUT covers (like Bowie's "Pin Ups"), then what three to five songs do you think should be on it? You never know, they might actually do it. Look how many "older" acts are having success with it recently!
It has been quiet on here, so I thought that I'd run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes.
Anyone notice how a lot of songs from the eighties are being covered lately. For example, I know that someone is covering OMD's "If you leave" on the OC. Foo Fighters have their Prince song. So, you know that The Smithereens are gonna get a make-over sometime in the near future...
In that light, here are a few questions: Which Smithereens song would you like to hear covered ? Who would do a great version of it and who would you rather murder than have them even attempt to learn the cords ? I am still thinking about it myself, so I will eventually reply to this in the comments section.
Just got invited tonight, looking forward to meeting all of you. Got my first taste of the Smithereens some time last year--driving home from my granny's, I heard "Blues Before and After." A friend let me listen to his burned copy of "A Girl Like You" most of the entire weekend I was visiting him, and then a few weeks later, I got "Blow Up." Favorite song is "Now and Then."
Heya! Thanks so much for the invite. I've only seen the band once, in Annapolis, but I've been a fan for many, many years. "Green Thoughts" has become a sort of personal anthem of mine, for reasons that should be obvious when visiting my page (or greenparty), but then, I could say that about several of their songs...
Well, since all of you are urging me to go and a few of my "real life" friends are urging me to go (because some of them want to go, too!!) I have just emailed Mr. DiNizio about the details of his March 27th "Living Room" concert in Moorestown, NJ.
I'll let you know if he responds and what conspires!!
Hi, thanks also for the invite. The Smithereens are truly my favorite band, ever, and the one I've seen the most in live performances. I have nothing but completely exhilirating feelings when I hear so many of their songs -- you know, the way great tunes can touch a piece of your soul.
Once I had a dream (a great dream) in which they performed in my living room. One of those dreams, when you wake up, you try to go back to sleep to re-join the dream where you left off! (It didn't work.)
I must insist that in the "interests" of the community, you need to add "Room Without a View." ;)
Oh yeah, I'm a newbie to lj, so please be kind if you read me on the Friends link and wonder why I'm journaling so much.
